Former New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress pleads guilty, gets 2 years in prison. In case you didn't know, Plaxico accidentally shot himself in the thigh at a nightclub (Latin Quarter) in New York back in November, 2008.
Finally, stupidity is a felony (carrying the unlicensed .40-caliber handgun).
Burress wisely copped a plea; agreeing not to pursue attempted murder charges against himself. Just a joke folks.
In my opinion, a two-year prison sentence was a little bit harsh. Look at Donte Stallworth of the Cleveland Browns. Stallworth struck and killed 59-year-old Mario Reyes, a construction worker who was leaving his job as a crane operator, in a March 14 crash. Police said Stallworth had spent the night drinking at a Miami Beach club. He had a blood-alcohol level of .126, above Florida’s .08 legal limit.
Stallworth was given a 30-day jail sentence and reached an undisclosed financial settlement with Reyes’ family. Besides jail time, Stallworth’s sentence included two years of house arrest, eight years of probation and other restrictions.
Stallworth served less than 30 days in jail for his crime, while the only victim in Burress’s offense was himself. I’m not saying that he shouldn’t be punished. He was stupid for carrying a loaded gun and he should have to pay the consequences for breaking the law.
Tell me what you think and vote on the poll.
